Touro Law Welcomes Senior Instructional Designer
February 19, 2020Touro Law Dean Elena B. Langan is pleased to announce the appointment of Patricia Baia, Ph.D. as Senior Instructional Designer. In this role, Dr. Baia will support faculty and departments in addressing complex teaching and learning issues related to instructional design as it relates to traditional, hybrid and online courses. Patty will also function to provide both professional development and day-to-day support for on-campus and online instruction and engage in ongoing research to identify the tools and assets to ensure faculty are able to engage in best-practices in their pedagogy.
“Dr. Baia has more than 20 years of experience in higher education and a background in curriculum development and instructional technology,” stated Dean Langan. “I am sure her contributions will benefit our faculty and our students. I look forward to watching her work positively impact our law school community.”
Patricia Baia was the previous Director of Online Learning and Instructional Technology at Albany Law School. She was also an Assistant Professor for 10 years at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. She has designed over 350 online, hybrid, and F2F courses and believes in a high touch approach for students, interactivity, strong communication/expectations, and organization as the keys to successful learning.
Dr. Baia has a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, M.S. in Curriculum Development and Instructional Technology, and B.A. in Psychology from the State University of New York at Albany. She has consulted for many colleges on instructional design and online learning initiatives and has notable publications in this field. Dr. Baia is the founder and president of the Capital District Educational Technology Group (CDETG) and founder and co-director of Helping Educators Learn Pedagogy (HELP), a completely online and self-paced professional development program which has graduated over 215 faculty. She is an Advisory Board member of several local universities on both instructional technology and online learning initiatives. Dr. Baia is also an Instructor for the University of California Irvine and a Lecturer at the University at Albany. She is committed to academic excellence through teaching and learning research, best practices, faculty and student needs, evaluation and assessment, focused and supported innovation, and professional development.
