February 26, 2020Dean Elena B. Langan is pleased to welcome Suffolk County Sheriff Dr. Errol D. Toulon, Jr. to the Touro Law Center Board of Governors. The Board of Governors is a group of distinguished men and women dedicated to supporting the growth of the Law Center. The Board consists of more than 35 individuals who are regional and national leaders in the legal profession and the business, philanthropic and academic communities.
“Sheriff Toulon’s background and experience will add a unique perspective to the Board,” stated Dean Langan. “We look forward to his contributions and commitment to education, our students and the law school community. His dedication to the betterment of the community he serves aligns well with Touro Law’s mission to educate lawyers who likewise serve the needs of their communities.”
On January 1, 2018, Errol D. Toulon, Jr., Ed.D., became Suffolk County, New York’s 67th Sheriff and the County’s first African-American to be elected to a non-judicial countywide office. As Suffolk’s highest-ranking law enforcement official, he is working to serve and protect the county’s 1.5 million residents through innovative programs to reduce crime and recidivism, and by implementing sound fiscal policies.
Sheriff Toulon has more than 30 years of criminal-justice experience, heavily centered upon corrections intelligence and combating gang violence. Prior to serving as Suffolk County Sheriff, Errol worked for 22 years as a Uniformed Member of Service with the New York City Department of Correction. In July of 2014, he was named Deputy Commissioner of Operations for the New York City Department of Correction.
Sheriff Toulon stated, “Touro Law Center has evolved into one of the most innovative and distinguished law schools in the country, offering students practical hand-on work/study opportunities and a challenging curriculum. I look forward to serving on the Board to deepen the college’s bridge to the law enforcement community, and to lending my expertise in whatever capacity I may be helpful.”

Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law is located adjacent to both a state and a federal courthouse in Central Islip, New York. Touro Law’s proximity to the courthouses, coupled with programming developed to integrate the courtroom into the classroom, provide a one-of-a kind learning experience for law students, combining a rigorous curriculum taught by expert faculty with a practical courtroom experience. Touro Law is dedicated to providing hands-on learning that enables students to gain experience while offering much-needed legal services in the community.
Touro Law, which has an alumni base of more than 6,500, offers full- and part-time JD programs where students can earn a degree in 2, 3 or 4 years and provides four areas of concentration Additionally, Touro offers a hybrid, four-year FlexTime JD Program combining online and on campus learning. Touro Law offers several dual degree programs and graduate law programs for US and foreign law graduates. Touro Law Center is part of the Touro College system.
