About
Touro Law Veterans’ Clinic Director to Hike Across Long Island to Raise Awareness, Funds
July 13, 2020Lennon will be
carrying 22 pounds for the duration of the hike as well as stopping every 22
miles to do 22 pushups to bring special attention to the staggering statistic
that each day 22 veterans take their own life. Several dedicated friends and
colleagues will be hiking with him for all or part of the two days including Touro
Law alumnus and veteran Patrick Donahue ’19, as well as a former NFL player and
New York Naval Recruiting Commander.
“I have been
training hard and welcome this challenge as an opportunity to raise both
awareness and funds for a noble cause,” stated Lennon. “As a veteran myself and
the leader of a clinic that helps veterans, I feel it is my duty to do
something above and beyond for my fellow service men and women.”
The hike will start
at Citifield on Saturday, August 1 at 9:30 am. Lennon and fellow hikers will be
hiking along Rte 25A until they reach Grumman Memorial Park in Calverton, anticipated
time of arrival about 10 am Sunday, August 2. Funds are being raised for Bob
Feller Act of Valor Foundation, Veteran Suicide Awareness and Remembrance Flag,
and the Semper Fi Fund. Lennon has offered to carry anything for one mile for
anyone supporting the cause, whether it be a flag, picture, weight, etc. Last year, Lennon set a world record for
dragging a 400 lb. chain for 1 mile in 63 minutes and 18 seconds to bring
awareness to this same cause.
