Jothy Narendran ’96 Named Chair of Touro Law Board of Governors

Dean Elena B. Langan is pleased to announce the appointment of Jothy Narendran ’96 as Chair of the Board of Governors. The Touro Law Center Board of Governors is a group of distinguished individuals who are dedicated to supporting the growth of the Law Center. The Board consists of more than 40 lawyers and non-lawyers who are regional and national leaders in the legal, business, philanthropic and academic communities. Former Board Chair, Howie M. Stein, head of the Real Estate Practice Group at Certilman Balin Adler & Hyman, LLP and member of the firm’s Executive Committee, is stepping down as Chair, but will remain on the Board.

“I look forward to working with Jothy in this role and am confident that her talent and dedication will benefit the entire Touro Law community,” stated Langan. “I also want to thank Howie Stein for his 17 years of service as Board Chair. I look forward to a continued partnership with him as a Board member and friend of Touro Law.”

Narendran, Partner at Jaspan Schlesinger, LLP, chairs the firm’s banking and financial services practice group. She represents institutional and private lenders in a variety of commercial real estate financing transactions. These include acquisition and construction loans, equipment financing, leasehold financing, multi-lender participation/syndicated financing, real estate investment trust and interest rate swap transactions, revolving credit facilities, letters of credit, industrial development agency transactions, Section 1031 exchanges and reverse exchange loans, mezzanine and structured financing and defeasances.

Narendran, who graduated from Touro Law in 1996, is a member of the firm’s management committee and Co-Managing Partner with Steven R. Schlesinger. She has been an active member of the alumni community at Touro Law for many years. In 2021, she was the recipient of the Paul S. Miller Award, presented to an alum for their extraordinary leadership in the legal community and within the law school community. She recently co-chaired the school’s largest fundraising effort, “With Liberty & Justice for All Dinner.” She was a member of Touro Law’s 40th Anniversary Committee and has been an active member of the Board for several years. Additionally, she has generously donated to the school for scholarships and other initiatives. 

Narendran stated, “I look forward to serving as Chair of the Board to help support Touro Law in its mission to train practice-ready lawyers who are committed to serving the needs of their clients and communities with compassion and integrity. I look forward to being involved and active to help make a difference for all of the students and various constituents of Touro Law.”
