WHO: Touro Law Dean Elena Langan, District Administrative Judge of Suffolk County Honorable Andrew A. Crecca and Director of the Public Advocacy Center & Public Interest Cate Carbonaro join with PAC agency leadership including: Serena Martin-Liguori, Executive Director of New Hour for Women and Children; Pilar Moya-Mancera, Executive Director of Housing Help Inc.; Jennifer Hernandez, Co-Founder of ECLI-VIBES; Sharon Campo, Supervising Attorney of the Community Legal Help Project at Nassau Suffolk Law Services; Martha Maffei, Executive Director Sepa Mujer; Dolores Kordon, Executive Director of Brighter Tomorrows.
WHY: Please join Touro Law Center and the Public Advocacy Center organizations in celebrating the ribbon cutting of the Public Advocacy Center’s new headquarters and newly focused community collaboration.
The PAC is housed in a new 20,000 square-foot building on the law school campus that also includes classrooms and faculty and administrative offices.
The PAC has been reimagined with a focus on holistic community-centered access to justice, supporting the community by providing legal assistance, counseling, housing help, support for domestic violence and trafficking victims, and reentry support, as well as connections to other access to justice initiatives.
The PAC was developed to have an impact on social justice, legal training and the lives of countless individuals in and beyond the local community, established through the generous funding from the William Randolph Hearst Foundation. The Center uses Touro Law students for advocacy services, research work, and client relations. Students work with these organizations to earn academic credit for internships and externships, and to satisfy their pro bono requirements while developing an understanding of the problems facing the local community.
Agencies housed in the PAC include Housing Help Inc., New Hour for Women and Children LI, Nassau Suffolk Law Services Community Legal Help Project, Sepa Mujer, Brighter Tomorrows, and ECLI-VIBES.
In addition, there are more than 50 agencies associated with the PAC as Cooperative Members, who work collaboratively and join us for extended meetings, occasionally use students in their work as public interest fellows, and are deeply committed to social justice and making a difference in our community.
