Touro Law to Host Panel on Pros and Cons of Marijuana Legalization in New York State

October 23, 2014Touro Law Center will host a Marijuana Symposium titled “Legalize, Decriminalize or Penalize? A Contemporary Cannabis Query on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm. A welcome reception will be held at 5:30 pm.
With the growing number of states authorizing the use of marijuana for medical purposes, and now small number starting to legalize its use in general, the program will examine the current state of marijuana laws across the country. It will provide insight into the political, legal, and social concerns that are being discussed in statehouses considering whether or not marijuana should be legalized.
Panelists, who represent different viewpoints and policy as well as legal aspects of the debate will include: David C. Holland, Esq., current Executive and Legal Director of Empire State NORML (the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) and Counsel to High Times Magazine; Michael Francisco, Esq., the current Assistant Solicitor General for Colorado's Attorney General: Amol Sinha, the Director of the New York Civil Liberties Union Suffolk Chapter; and Kassandra Frederique, the New York policy manager at the Drug Policy Alliance. Distinguished Professor Richard Klein, a criminal law expert who has followed the impact of marijuana possession on criminal convictions and sentencing for years, will be moderating the discussion.
