Touro Law Receives $75K Grant from the Robin Hood Relief Fund
Money to Support Disaster Relief Clinic Through Fall 2015

Touro Law Center is pleased to announce that it has received a $75,000 grant from the Robin Hood Relief Fund to continue its support for its Disaster Relief Clinic, working with victims of Superstorm Sandy.
“Our Disaster Relief Clinic has been doing incredible work helping, thousands of victims of Hurricane Sandy and serves as a national model for disaster response,” said Dean Patricia Salkin. “We are grateful to the Robin Hood Relief Fund for continuing to recognize the outstanding work of our faculty and students. This grant will ensure the clinic remains in operation through the Fall 2015 semester. There is still so much work to be done and this grant will enable us to provide much needed legal help to those in need.
The Disaster Relief Clinic assists those with legal problems arising from Hurricane Sandy, the Superstorm that affected the tri-state area in October 2012 causing widespread devastation and destruction. Students work under faculty supervision to provide free legal assistance to Sandy victims on a wide range of issues. Legal issues have evolved since the disaster, with the greatest unmet needs for legal services in areas including flood insurance disputes, problems with contractors and mortgage and foreclosure issues. Students also work on issues that have a broad impact on disaster recovery affecting a larger number of clients, as well as public policies for disaster recovery or assistance.
Founded in 1988, Robin Hood is New York’s largest poverty-fighting organization, and has focused on finding, funding and creating programs and schools that generate meaningful results for families in New York’s poorest neighborhoods. The Robin Hood Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund has granted tens of millions of dollars to organizations throughout New York’s tri-state region that help individuals and families recover from the devastating effects of the storm.
Touro Law’s clinical program teaches practice-ready skills required for effective advocacy while providing no cost legal services for the community. Students work under close faculty supervision to provide legal assistance to actual clients. Currently, 12 clinics are offered: Advanced Bankruptcy Clinic , Bankruptcy Clinic, Criminal Defense Clinic, Criminal Prosecution Clinic, Disaster Relief Clinic, Elder Law Clinic, Family Law Clinic, Federal Prosecution Clinic, Immigration Law Clinic, Mortgage Foreclosure Clinic, Small Business and Not-for-Profit Law Clinic and the Veterans' and Servicemembers' Right Clinic.
