Touro Signs Agreement with South China Normal University
November 15, 2018Dean Harry Ballan is pleased to announce that Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with South China Normal University (SCNU) for the two schools jointly to pursue scholarly activities. Under the MOU, graduate and undergraduate law students at SCNU students will be able to study at Touro Law and, where appropriate, be awarded an LL.M. graduate law degree.
“SCNU is an impressive university with excellent students,” Dean Ballan said. “I am delighted that its students will be able to study at Touro Law and take courses with our students. The MOU will promote cooperation between our two schools, enriching both, and will give students a greater understanding of the relationship between the United States and China and the role of international law in that relationship.”
SCNU Dean Zhang Yongzhong said, “Touro Law Center is excellent at teaching its students the law. We look forward to collaborating with Touro Law on student exchange programs, conferences, and other academic projects.” Touro Law hosted Dr. Jin Zheng, an SCNU law professor, during the 2015-16 academic year.
Associate Dean Rodger Citron traveled to Guangzhou in October to sign the MOU with SCNU. As part of SCNU’s “American Week,” Dean Citron gave a lecture on “Developments in American Legal Education” to undergraduate and graduate law students.
“SCNU was a gracious host,” Dean Citron said. “I look forward to working with its students and faculty in the future.”
South China Normal University is a comprehensive university in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province, in the People’s Republic of China. SCNU is a Chinese Ministry of Education Double First Class Discipline University, with Double First Class status in certain disciplines.
