Touro Law Hires Director of Assessment
December 4, 2019Touro Law Dean Elena B. Langan is pleased to announce the appointment of Kathleen M. Gill, Ph.D. as Director of Assessment. In this role, new at the law school, Dr. Gill will provide leadership and coordination to the Law Center’s academic assessment process. She will assist in building assessment data infrastructure, supporting faculty assessment needs, and advancing accreditation efforts to document both program improvements and learning outcomes.
“We look forward to working with Dr. Gill for continued evaluation and improvement of both teaching and learning at Touro Law,” stated Dean Langan. “We are committed to providing a quality legal education that prepares our students for the realities of practice. Dr. Gill will ensure we stay the course and continue to reevaluate our offerings and methods of delivery and implement changes that will positively affect our students.”
Kathleen M. Gill, Ph.D., has more than 25 years of institutional research, assessment, accreditation, and strategic planning experience. She commented that “Touro has something special in its values and in its caring for students and for one another. I am excited about working closely with faculty to use assessment to discover insights into advancing student success.”
Most recently serving as the Director of Planning and Assessment at New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), Dr. Gill implemented a new Continuous Program Improvement process for all academic and administrative units, noted by the 2019 Middle States evaluation team as one of the institute’s significant accomplishments. In the eight years prior to joining NYIT, Dr. Gill served first as University Director of Assessment and then as Associate Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness at Long Island University. There, she designed and implemented the institution’s first Institutional Effectiveness Plan, helped to implement and institutionalize the university’s first strategic planning process, advanced accreditation self-studies, and implemented the university’s assessment of student learning process, which was lauded by the 2013 Middle States evaluation team.
She previously served as the Associate Director of the Policy Center on the First Year of College, Assistant to the Provost for Institutional Research at Franklin Pierce College, and Assistant Director of Program Improvement at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Dr. Gill has a M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and a B.A. in Sociology and Anthropology from Lafayette College in Pennsylvania.
