New Westlaw and Lexis Innovations Coming Soon to the Gould Law Library
July 12, 2010Central Islip, NY – The Gould Law Library is pleased to announce that The Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center subscriptions to Westlaw and Lexis will soon be augmented by much anticipated innovations.
WestlawNext is Westlaw’s new legal search engine described as “Google-ized” Westlaw. WestlawNext searches by looking at the terms entered and identifying the issue of law based on those terms. Once the terms are entered into the search bar, WestlawNext will look through all of Westlaw’s individual databases to generate an answer. Look for WestlawNext to come to Touro Law in spring 2011.
Lexis for Microsoft Office (LMO) will enable students and faculty to access content from LexisNexis and the open Web in one place while operating directly within Microsoft Office applications - Microsoft Office Outlook, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server. LMO will be rolled out to the Touro Law Community beginning in the fall 2010 semester.
“These major changes to Westlaw and Lexis have been much anticipated by the legal community,” said April Schwartz, Director of the Gould Law Library and Professor of Law. “It will be exciting for our students and faculty to try out these major new features. We are always looking for new and better ways to improve our legal research and writing capabilities.”
The Gould Law Library at Touro Law was named for the Gould family. The Gould family, including mother and father Jean and Norman, and sons Bruce, Jeffrey and Robert, all are long and valued supporters of the Law Center. Bruce K. Gould, a member of Touro's Class of 1984, served as President of the Student Bar Association, was a founding member and the second president of the Law Center’s Alumni Association and continues to serve as an active member of the school's Board of Governors. He established the school's first endowed faculty chair, The Bruce K. Gould Distinguished Professor of Law, and created the Bruce K. Gould Book Award, a nationally recognized honor bestowed annually by the Law Center on the author of an outstanding publication in the legal field.
Jean and Norman Gould started Gould Publications in the 1950s. Under their stewardship the small, family-owned company grew over the years into one of the nation's leading law book publishers. The Law Center celebrates the Gould family's proud tradition of support for philanthropic, religious, secular and educational endeavors, of which the Gould Law Library serves as a fitting memorial and permanent legacy.

Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center’s 185,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility is located adjacent to both a state and a federal courthouse in Central Islip, New York.
