Goods & Services Auction Raises More Than $53,000 for Public Interest Fellowships, Honors Nine Public Interest Attorneys
March 31, 2011Central Islip, NY – Touro Law Center’s 17th Annual Goods and Services auction, held on March 16th at the law school, raised more than $53,000. All proceeds from the auction benefit Touro Law’s Public Interest Law Fellowship Program, awarding stipends to students who are dedicated to helping others through public service work during the summer. In addition, nine attorneys were honored for their dedication to public interest and pro bono work through the Public Interest Attorney of the Year Recognition Program, led by auction co-chair Lois Schlissel, Esq., managing partner of Meyer, Suozzi, English, Klein, P.C.
“This auction is a great example of Touro Law’s commitment to public service,” said Peter Davis, Co-Chair of the Auction Committee and Professor of Law. “And, the attorney’s honored at this year’s event, who have made a commitment to public service, provide an excellent example to law students. We owe a debt of thanks to the donors and attendees who helped make this year’s auction such a resounding success.”
As a result of this year’s auction, Touro Law will be able to award more than 13 Summer Public Interest Law Fellowships. And, due to the generosity of additional foundation and individual supporters, approximately 18 additional students will receive fellowships as well. The evening included both a silent and a live auction. Items for the auction are generously donated by local businesses, organizations, individuals, alumni and committee members.

Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center’s 185,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility is located adjacent to both a state and a federal courthouse in Central Islip, New York.
