In Loving Memory: Linda Howard Weissman

Despite her diminutive stature, Linda was most often the largest personality in any room. She had boundless energy and a zest for life that was evident in all that she did both personally and professionally. She had a deep love and dedication to Touro Law throughout a career that spanned more than 27 years. During her tenure, Linda oversaw fundraising, alumni relations, special events, and marketing & communications. She found inspiration in the students, faculty, and staff, and in the mission of Touro. She enjoyed every aspect of her work – developing new scholarships, meeting with alumni and members of the Board, and traveling internationally for conferences, always working collaboratively and creatively for a greater good. She was persistent in her quest to fund scholarships and to develop new initiatives to aid the students and programs of our law school.

Linda was an integral member of our community—a friend to many, an ambassador for Touro, and a champion for us all. Let us remember Linda for her passion, her spirit, and her dedication as we uphold her legacy here at Touro Law for years to come. Linda truly made a difference for so many. 

A memorial service is being planned for September at the Law Center. More details will be made available.

Linda Howard Weissman, Assistant Dean for Institutional Advancement 

Linda’s accomplishments are extraordinary. She was responsible for strategic oversight and management of the law School’s resource development, donor relations, alumni relations, events, marketing and communications to support the mission of Touro Law. Throughout nearly three decades of service, working closely with five Deans, faculty, administration colleagues, the IA staff, Board members, elected officials and generous donors, she helped raise close to $40M from individuals, foundations, corporations and government entities from the local to the federal level. Linda led the philanthropic efforts by example, showing her passion for the Law Center and its students by contributing her own funds through the years and creating a scholarship in memory of her late husband Jim.

Linda was an integral part of the growth of Touro Law, raising capital-building funds to move from Huntington to Central Islip, raising programmatic funding for our clinics and raising significant scholarship funds so that currently the Law School has more than 70 named scholarships. She was responsible for creating the Annual Goods & Services Auction to benefit Public Interest Fellowships and the Liberty & Justice Dinner. She was also instrumental in creating the Builders Society, into which she was inducted in 2022. She also she gave leadership to the Law School’s successful 40th Anniversary celebration.

She will be missed by many, not only for her expertise and for tireless efforts on behalf of the Law Center, but also for her friendship and support of everyone and everything Touro.
